West Nile Virus mosquito sample

8/20/2024

Dear DWG Residents,

The City of DWG has confirmed one positive West Nile Virus (WNV) mosquito sample. As a result, the City will conduct ground spraying throughout DWG. Ground spraying will occur according to the Tarrant County Public Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations. Contractors will perform two consecutive nights of ground spraying between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, and Thursday, Aug. 22, weather permitting. This ground spraying schedule is intended to reduce the known virus-infected adult mosquito population as quickly as possible.
The City’s contractor will use an ultra-low-volume application of a water-based permethrin product. Although this product poses no significant health risk, residents and their pets are urged to stay inside during these times. If possible, remove children’s toys, outdoor equipment, clothing, pet food, and water bowls from outdoors. Always wash produce thoroughly before cooking or eating. We ask our residents to drain any standing water and take proper precautions to protect against mosquitoes, especially during dawn and dusk.
